What is your church-planting strategy?
We believe the most effective way of evangelizing a new area is to plant churches. The Gospel not only needs to be proclaimed, but also to be demonstrated in real life. The best way is through Christians living out the Gospel together in a local community. In this way new communities are established, often in places that have not seen authentic Christianity worked out through the church.

Our vision is to plant reproducing churches in the top 100 cities in the United States. Our strategy is to plant vibrant, New Testament local churches that are Christ-centered, relational, Spirit-empowered communities. We desire churches who are on a mission together to transform the world with the gospel. With our international Newfrontiers family of churches, we actively support church-planting worldwide.

Our method of starting new churches is church-based, team-driven, and apostolically guided. We believe that Ephesians 4 teams are essential to help plant churches, ensuring that they are established on apostolic and prophetic foundations. We believe these methods are integral to the way of biblical church planting. While there are a variety of ways churches get planted, we hold to the general process that involves Assessment and Training along with Apostolic Input and Support.

How do you decide where to plant a church?
We prayerfully consider many factors in deciding where to plant a church, and seek to determine God’s will for the next step. These factors include our overall strategic vision, the burden of the primary church planter, and the consideration of which locations appear most strategic and opportune for advancing the gospel.
No single factor determines where a church will be planted. Ideally, a church planter will have a desire to plant in a specific location and yet is willing to adjust these subjective desires if necessary. The overall goal is that everyone involved has the sense that God’s Spirit is leading us to this location.

How do I plant a Newfrontiers church?
While the process may vary depending on circumstances, some general aspects of this process may include the following:

a. Learn about Newfrontiers. The first step will be to develop a relationship with the Newfrontiers family of churches. Discover all you can about our beliefs and practices through our websites, sermons, written materials, and conferences. The goal is for the prospective church planter to develop an accurate understanding of Newfrontiers USA. It is hoped this dialogue brings clarity to whether the potential planter desires to plant a church with us.

b. Pray! Prayerfully consider whether God is leading you to partner with us. Ask for God’s help as you explore and evaluate your theological and relational compatibility with us. Pray God reveals his will to you and directs your decisions.

c. Embrace Newfrontiers values. We believe the local church is the context for church planting. As such, Newfrontiers church planters will plant churches with our vision and values. Over time, future church planters will want to understand and affirm these values for themselves.

d. Handle desires with humility. One way humility expresses itself is by making our desires known and being accountable with others. This includes communicating your desire to plant a church to a Newfrontiers pastor or a leadership team member.

e. Receive Training. As you prove fruitful in your local church, the call of God to plant a church will become increasingly clear to your leaders and others around you. The church planter should invest in concentrated training in biblical/theological study, active ministry, and the development of godly character.

f. Be assessed. Assessment is vital to a person interested in church planting. This occurs over time in the context of serving in the local church as well as through taking the various assessments given in the CPT application process. Men who feel called to plant a church should actively pursue counsel and evaluation from their leaders. Church planters should have proven character and a clear gift of leadership.

g. Participate in CPT (the Newfrontiers USA Church-Planting Training internship). Primary church planters can receive specialized training by serving in a one to two year internship currently located at the apostolic base of Jubilee Church in St. Louis, MO. This internship plays a vital role in equipping you to start a new Newfrontiers church.

h. Determine the details of the church plant. The CPT internship eventually explores matters of location, strategy, and team development for the new church plant. The church planter works with the local church and the apostolic leadership team to determine the details involved in starting the new church.

How does Newfrontiers approach missions?
Missions has commonly been understood to be the act of taking the gospel to other nations. The common practice has been for individuals to be sent out as “missionaries” by a church or some organization to other nations. As a family of churches, we believe the most biblical approach to missions occurs when the local church itself is missional. This means everything the church does involves proclaiming and demonstrating the good news of the kingdom and making disciples. The entire church and not just select individuals are serving together to express the gospel to the world.

The primary method to accomplish Jesus’ call to mission (Mt. 28:19-20) as revealed in the New Testament is to plant reproducing churches. Rather than just “make converts”, our desire is to plant reproducing communities of believers in new places. In addition, we continually offer training in cross-cultural ministry and present opportunities to send teams to learn and serve cross-culturally in the context of the local church. CPT training is specifically designed to prepare individuals to plant and lead a church that will reproduce itself.
